I just kinda get tired of the temper tantrums some people pull when they're caught dirty or just disagreed with. I do like just about all the cops here even though we sometimes have some heated discussions. People have been banned for just having a different opinion and not backing down from it. I've visited the other site that you're talking about and have found that sometimes the moderators get in the way of a good thread by trying to get people to play "nice" and a good counter argument is quelched before it gets going.
You, Delta, Josey, Bodie, JB2245, 633?, Bart, and several others keep the site honest and interesting despite the people that are here to play games. I've learned a lot from reading your posts and I even though I don't always agree, I've come to have a tremendous amount of respect for you. Just think, Breaktime had a thread about a year ago wondering if we had lost our minds here because we were telling Non-Pros to go elsewhere.If you bailed, I would be pretty disappointed. If we answer any question perceived as posted by DIYs and homeowners, we only encourage the possibilty of another breaktime.

This is a Professional Forum for us to ask questions and let off steam. But we get posters wanting to check prices, asking way-out structural questions or asking How Much?Įnough already, I stand by my own reasoning. They do have other venues to explore without posting in every forum we have however I would throw in my. Some of those questions are valid concerns about the building process or about a contractor seemingly not doing right in their eyes. I have suggested in the past to JLC Add a forum for homeowners to post a question and those interested can post answers. Face it, we pay either directly by purchasing the cd and the magazine or by patronizing the advertisers who help supplement this site. But in simple terms, just plain simple everyday common sense thinking, "Why can't we have a site of our own to discuss business, contracts, labor, estimates, costing, insurances, good clients, bad clients, our mistakes, our triumphs, tools, trucks, computers, etc.". People post that I'm cruel, insensitive, afraid, and all sorts of other c. There are numerous sites geared to homeowners so they can discuss things on their own level. I have been an outspoken, sometimes extremely blunt, to posters who do not heed the "Building Professionals Only" heading at the top of each of these forums.
I abandoned the Breaktime site for all of the reasons said above AND the constant input of DIYs and homeowners.

The new software at Breaktime is so confusing that I can't get around there any more. I've seen him here now, and I hope for his sake, he stays on his meds. A lot of the regulars on the board had the same problem with the guy and asked the Breaktime SYOP to ban him. I personally got verbally attacked on a regular basis by a poster over there years ago because I disagreed with one of his post. But we all (well, at least I can speak for myself) got a little out of hand. The amount of building information over there was FANTASTIC at one time. They did what they had to do to stop the madness. Andy Engel, at Taunton, is a good guy who inherited a spoiled problem child with Breaktime. I was one of the people who rebelled loudly about the change, but I see it now in a different light. In retrospect, I think Tauntons move to change the software was an act of self preservation. There were people who didn't get along over the key strokes and sometimes all hell broke loose.
People started getting cocky and things went down hill from there. They became more of a general message board instead of a construction board. I do see a lot of names here like kc's above that are also ex's.
